Delaware

From Colonial sites to its coastal neighborhoods the first state, Delaware is a great place for a family vacation. Settled by the Dutch in the 1600's, Delaware has had big roles in shaping much of America's history despite its tiny size. You can still view landmarks such as Fort Delaware State Park, a Colonial War era fortress and prison, Nemours Mansion, which was styled after Louis the XVI's castle and Cannonball House.

For a beach vacation, the coastal towns of Lewes, Rehoboth, Bethany and Dewey serve as the perfect destinations. Many residents from Maryland, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania make these towns home during the summer. Rehoboth is particularly known for its night life, but each beach area has lively neighborhoods and an abundance of fairs each year.

While visiting the state, be sure to indulge yourself in some shopping. Delaware has tax-free shopping, so take advantage at its abundance of shops and designer outlet stores. For Nascar and horse race lovers, be sure to visit Dover Downs to catch a speedy race.
