Fresno is located in Central California between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The city is the cultural and economic center of the Fresno-Clovis metropolitan area. Fresno is the second largest metropolitan area in the Central Valley. The name Fresno is the Spanish-language word for the ash tree and an ash leaf is featured on its flag.
There are year round activities in this vibrant city and surrounding area. Starting in February the annual Fresno County Blossom Trail kicks off and motorists and hikers throughout the farm country can come see the stunning displays of blossoming peach, nectarine, plum, orange and almond trees in full bloom. The trail is 67 miles long.
Arte Americas is a local Latino cultural center. Arte Americas was founded in 1987 by artists and teachers to make the Central Valley a flourishing place for Latino arts. It presents art exhibits and the performing arts. In the fall the Wine Cornucopia occurs. Every October in Downtown Fresno, San Joaquin Valley wines, regional art and gourmet foodstuffs are showcased.
From different film works to the Grand Opera, Poets to the Philharmonic, Art Museums, Stately Homes and even an Underground Garden, Fresno is a Cultural Cornucopia for the arts savvy visitor.
