Whether attending the annual Crawfish Festival; touring one of the many beautiful plantation houses filled with history, original artwork and old Southern décor; or checking out St. Mark’s Wildlife Refuge and Natural Springs, Tallahassee is filled with one-of-a-kind events and attractions.

As Florida’s capital city, Tallahassee promises a multitude of exciting things to do and see.  The Mary Brogan Museum of Arts and Sciences has everything from monkey art and surrealist paintings, to human body exhibits and dinosaur fossils.  As one of the city’s top attractions, the MOAS is a discovery of visual arts, sciences and technology.  The Challenger Learning Center is a hands-on experience that takes both children and adults through the exploration of space travel and what it’s really like to be in the mission control room.  Nature-lovers will enjoy a trip to Maclay State Gardens, where over 300 acres of flowers, wildlife, nature trails, boating and fishing are offered.

From Southern and Cajun to fusion and beyond, the city has an eclectic selection of perfected cuisine and top-notch restaurants. For French-Mediterranean influenced cuisine, A La Provence is a small, unassuming spot that serves up big flavors. Masa is a trendy restaurant that offers everything from fresh sushi to green tea crème brulee. According to locals, the best Mexican restaurant in northern Florida is Peppers Mexican Grill. Everything from their fresh guacamole and enchiladas verdes, to the margaritas and sizzling fajitas is authentic and made to order.

Tallahassee Regional Airport (TLH) is the closest domestic serving airport in the area. For direct international flights, the closest airport is Jacksonville International (JAX), which is 155 miles from downtown Tallahassee. For getting around the city, the main mode of public transportation is TALTRAN, which operates both the trolley and bus system. For visitors traveling throughout a larger region of the Tallahassee area, the StarMetro has a larger network or routes. Renting a car is recommended, as the city and its attractions are spread out over a large area.

Tallahasseeis characterized by a humid subtropical climate, with a rainy season from June through September, as well as long hot summers and short, mild winters. During the winter months of December and January, the average low temperature is around 42° F (5.5° C), while the high usually reaches around 64° F (17.7° C). In the summer, the hottest month of July has an average high temperature of 92° F (33.3° C). Weather-wise, the best time to visit Tallahassee is during the spring and autumn months, when the weather is temperate and less humid.
